Lakmé Fashion Week Grand Finale: Gauri & Nainika Karan

Eeek! I have been waiting to set my eyes on Gauri & Nainika's collection ever since I came to know that their show will be presented on the finale. They are basically my fashion design idols closer to home and I have been following their work ever since they started out. This fairytale collection totally brings out the wannabe princess inside me. I especially like the short dresses or should I say, frocks full of ruffles? Even though I am big fan and I admire this collection, I have one point to make. I feel that the designs are pretty repetitive, especially the gowns. Also, the ruffles kinda get overwhelming and too much after a point. Either way, I can't stop fantasising wearing all these dresses!

Lakmé Fashion Week Day 6: Abdul Halder

Abdul Halder is gooood! I love his shiny-sleek apparel, reminds of sleek iPods and touch-screen phones and what not. Super-hot. Anyway, speaking of Day 6, I haven't posted Abhishek Dutta because I didn't like the collection. Like, at all. The colours were boring and the designs were so random and to top all that off, he has Nisha/Priyanka Kothari as the showstopper. I know what you're thinking. At least, the designer or sponsors or whoever could have picked a celeb who doesn't sport a perennial frown on her face? Either way, I'm personally against the entire celebs walking the ramp thing. We don't have a lack of gorgeous models here, do we?

I have also not posted Pallavi Mohan because the administrators of the LFW sites haven't put up pics of her show. In fact we get to see Lina Tipnis all over again. There is definitely a mix-up. Their bad. Rohan Arora's gallery is also blank and if they ever update it, I may post him along with Vijay Balhara.

Pria Kataaria Puri has created a resort collection for royalty. I'm guessing the inspiration is Middle East. It's so sexy and classy! Also, with Perizaad Zorabian as the show-stopper, this show would have rocked, I'm sure!

Lakmé Fashion Week Day 5: Amalraj Sengupta / Purvi Doshi

The young Amalraj Sengupta certainly stands out with his avant-garde collection. His design skills are awesome, he constructs clothes, I should say. If you ask me, I think he would flourish in knitwear. But I think knitwear won't be popular here considering India's climate.

Self-taught designer Purvi Doshi does a cute collection using an unconventional colour palette. This clearly shows her expertise, her ability to take colours like grey and maroon and transform them into something very attractive and "young".

Lakmé Fashion Week Day 5: Abhishek Byas / Sabah Khan

Day 5 opens with Abhishek Byas who has done a semi-futuristic semi-partywear collection. I have picked some favourites as you can see. Sabah Khan evidently rocks. The colours, the patterns she has implemented is exemplary. In fact, everything is top-class, very innovative, catchy and yes, wearable. It's not runway-only. Sabashe!

The collection Anita Dongre presented for her Timeless label, is truly timeless and enchanting. It's so beautiful, I fell in love with it. I actually like this better than the Manish Malhotra's collection though this is more Western. I am not familiar with her work but can I just say I became Anita dongre's latest fan?

Day 4 opens with three accessory labels namely Breathing Space by Eina Ahluwalia, Malaga by Malini Agarwalla and Suhani Pittie. I haven't posted Breathing Space because I personally didn't like any of the pieces, but the message Ms Ahluwalia is trying to convey is pretty profound. I suggest to read about it on the LFW website.

Malaga is lovely, a little too ethnic for my tastes but nice anyway. Suhani Pittie certainly rules! Her avant-garde accessories and smart styling are top-notch. Looking forward to see more from this lovely lady.

I was particularly interested in Viia by Vivek Karunakaran since there aren't many designers from the deep south states and because I am a Tamilian too. Frankly, I'm not too impressed with his collection though I find the use of orange with white to be rather delicious. :)

As for Masaba Gupta, she's done a cute, amusing but really random collection. Nice headdresses. But I'm sorry I fail to understand the whole thing. Either way, pretty catchy.

Lakmé Fashion Week Day 3: Jatin Varma / Anand Kabra

Jatin Varma plays safe by doing feminine evening wear, complete with ruffles and the usual works. No phenomenal colours either. I expect some experimental work on the runway. Still, as I said, he plays safe and the collection is pretty. Something that you would want for your wardrobe.

Anand Kabra, on the other hand does some nice prints but none of this is really eye-catchy because of the poor accessorization implemented here.

Speaking of Day 3, I haven't posted Masaba, which I will. Another designer I want to post is Vivek Karunakaran but I'm not able the view the images properly on the LFW site. I will have to check later. As for the Energie show, I like it but I won't be posting it because I don't do casual menswear here but the collection is certainly good. Would I like to boyfriend to sport that? Yes, totally.

I'm impressed with both the labels that opened on Day 3. Jelin George does retro. Lovely colours and very smartly tailored outfits. Whereas Pamela & Archana do such brilliant catchy prints! Though the designing is not so impressive.

The exclamation is obvious. Sabyasachi Mukherjee has presented such a beautiful collection which delicious colours. He retains his signature style of incorporating a vintage Indian feel with nerd chic. In this one, I get a Japanese feel, what do you think? I won't say I'm very familiar with his work in order to compare this which his previous works.

Lakmé Fashion Week Day 2: Myoho / Preeti S Kapoor

In the third show of Day 2, we have Arpan Vohra whose collection I initially found to be smart and later, as I was going through the gallery again, I thought, "How random!". So, no place for Mr. Vohra here.

Myoho by Kiran and Meghna has some smart colours but I just cannot like the designs. Seriously, what inspires them to create such designs? Maybe it's just me but I simply can't understand what's so special about it.

Anyway, moving on, Preeti S Kapoor has done a bridal collection for a summer resort show. I don't know why. Is it okay to do a bridal for a resort show? I am going to ignore the season thing here because I personally don't believe in the showcase of fashion design according to seasons. And the collection is beautiful, though I find most bridal collections looking pretty much the same - rich, grand and beautiful. I would like to see a South Indian bridal collection. Has anyone done it? I would do something of that sort some time.

Lakmé Fashion Week Day 2: Best of Gen Next

Of course Deepti Pruthi ranks first among the other Gen Next designers. Her collection is pretty, dainty and feminine and rather 'safe'. She's done it simply and it is nevertheless attractive if not groundbreaking.

Manas Dash pretty much dashes in with bright prints which get evidently repetitive. I didn't bother to post the rather 'passé futuristic' collection by Anna-Liza Ganguly & Anita Walia. We all have seen these kind of stuff, haven't we?

Miriam Strehlau does desi-space-fairy-kitsch which is captivating and pretty. And yes I love the tutu thing. Is it really tutu? Nothing more to be said.

Timsy Kamboj does avant-garde menswear which I like. But then, I guess a man's opinion is needed here.

I haven't posted Shivaji Dutta's collection. Didn't find it phenomenal enough. But I should mention that I found the prints and patterns quite innovative.

The embroidery work is lovely, but otherwise this Anamika Khanna collection is rather mediocre. It's nothing we haven't seen before in Indian runway fashion. I really had that déjà vu feeling when I saw the pictures todays from the show. But this is just Day 1, right? There is time. Hope I see something ground-breaking soon.

Large and grandly detailed things usually a sign of extravaganza. They include mirrors, of course. But in case of mirrors, they need not really very grand or detailed. A large mirror with a plain black frame can still exaggerate.

If there are two adjacent shops; one for gorgeous jewellery and the other for equally gorgeous clothes and if you ask me where I will head first, I would definitely hit the jewellery store. Unlike most people, I buy clothes for the jewellery. I simply can't get enough of bling.
